The Well celebrates an anniversary
It was a dark and stormy night on March 4th when friends and supporters of The Well/La Source gathered at St. John’s, Elgin Street to celebrate another year of ministry to and with women. The Well is open as a drop-in centre for women and their children on weekdays and is a project sponsored by Community Ministries of the diocese.
The only space left was standing room only at the Eucharist with Sharon Scholar as celebrant, and a choir of women from the Well accompanied by Heather Rice. Else Barg, Acting Director of Pastoral Services at the Civic Hospital spoke about the ministry of Mary to Jesus.
Following, a festive potluck buffet dinner was served to a full house in the Well space which was decorated for the occasion with artwork done by a number of the women. The retiring chair of the steering committee, Beth Cook, introduced the staff and other committee members. Greetings from Sally Eaton, one of the founders, now in Toronto, was conveyed to the gathering.
Looking ahead to their next ten years, the Well is hoping to update its administrative procedures and provide a new service for the women. Co-ordinator Pat Connolly says they are looking for a computer for use in the office and so offer some computer experience to the women of the Well. They have in mind an IBM compatible with a hard disk and a floppy disk drive, a monitor, a standard keyboard and a printer. The Well cannot afford to buy a new computer but would be interested to hear from anyone who is ready to sell or donate a used computer system with the above features.
